Tema, «Jazz is jazz and new music is new music, and you should not have any other gods beside me. Though there are many gods». Under the direction of Lennart Dohms, together they demonstrate what young composition students of Hochschule der Künste Bern are concerned with today.
What will contemporary music sound like in the future? What talents are studying at the universities, who might shape the Swiss and international music scene in the coming years? In this concert, as already in previous years, the Bern public is given an insight into the work of HKB’s students composers. At the premiere concert this year, the ensembles Polytheistic and Tema have been invited by HKB to perform a colourful combination of contemporary music, jazz and rock.
Luis Felipe Arteaga, Timmy Schenk and Josquin Schwizgebel from Xavier Dayer’s composition class explore all possible arrangements of these soundscapes. Jonathan March, John Michet and Charlotte Torres from Daniel Glaus’s instrumentation class move within Modest Mussorgsky’s catacombs and create different arrangements from it. New pieces by Eunsun Lee, Matthias Ockert and Alwyn Tomas Westbrooke complete this programme with no fewer than nine world premieres!
Free admission for students of HKB.
An event by Hochschule der Künste Bern and Musikfestival Bern.
