From 3 to 7 September, the Musikfestival Bern explored the theme of ‘chains’ in all its many facets: from chain drives to compositional and political aspects to chains of infection and food chains. Particularly noteworthy are the artists who accompanied the festival as ‘artists in residence’: the Belgian ensemble Ictus is one of the leading international ensembles for new music and presented three of its current productions. Sound artist Svetlana Maraš, co-director of the Electronic Studio Basel and professor of creative music technology, provided insights into her creative work in concerts, installations and discussions. In addition to these international guests, the festival served as a platform for the independent Bernese scene, which participated in the programme with innovative concert formats and musical experiments.
